I was very interested to read your report of being the first GI to reach the Eagles Nest after the war. My father was one of the war correspondents you passed as you left the Eagles Nest and started back down the mountain. I wish my father were still living and could read your story.

It’s pretty obvious you’re correct. It looks to me like a T-38. I’m going check with Chuck and change it. I’m not quite sure how I made that mistake, but I thank you for getting me straightened out.

I believe the caption should be “climbing into the cockpit of a T-38″. I was a weapons control tech on the F-105, the system that controlled the dropping of the bombs.

Your dad must have a lot of interesting WW II stories to tell. If he is still alive and living in the Sun’s circulation area I’d love to tell them. If not, the best advice I can give you is to talk to your local newspaper and see if they would be interested in writing his story. You might show whoever you contact at your local paper my web site and tell the person you talk with to contact me. I’d be glad to tell them how well received and how well read these stories are. During the 12 years I’ve written “War Tales” and the 1,000 plus war stories the Sun has run, I can assure them there are few stories in anyone’s paper better liked.

Exciting to find your web site. As the son of a WWII tanker who island hopped Biak, Letye etc, I find little information about their experiences. That he survived 12+ landings seems amazing and feel the stories and photographs should be recorded somewhere. Please advise.

In reference to your story regarding James R. Broom and his escapades in the Republic of South Viet-Nam during 1967-1968. Although it was an interesting article, some of the information published was incorrect. He was actually with the 815th Engineer Batallion (not co.) Also you listed his Branch of Service as U.S. Air Force, when it was actually the U.S. Army! I also served with the 815th Engineer Batallion from June 1967, to June 1968, and at the time, Jim was my best friend.
